Our Purpose
We began creating short videos, which we actually call, digital handouts, for professional development for Jane's school district. We found that by letting the videos be embedded directly into an email, teachers were much more likely to view them. Unlike a long packet of information, or 30 minute video, which honestly, who has the time to read and watch, our short under 5 minute videos seemed to have been successful.
There are a lot of text blogs in cyberspace right now. We love a good blog, don't get us wrong. (We both read dozens of food blogs!) But Jill also started becoming a huge fan of listening to podcasts. She appreciated the personal nature of hearing the writer behind the words. So we decided to try our hand at podcasting; keeping our same philosophy intact: substance: short and sweet.
Besides the digital world, we also want to bring our two worlds of education together: college and elementary teaching. Jill has always believed that "teaching is teaching and learning is learning." That sounds trite, but how often do we stop and really think about the similarities between the learning process of a child and a graduate student? But you know what? At times, they aren't all that different. Certainly when navigating how to learn English, the process is very similar for both child and adult. We want to share our experiences working with students of all ages as they learn English and navigate their way through American culture.
But we also want to ask questions, share what we DON'T know, feel free to make mistakes, and learn from those who listen and write in. So please write to us! Ask questions and offer topics for discussion.
Enjoy and welcome!
